Final Thoughts in 2008

"Some years are busy and some nights are late,
Some conversations are fancy and others not so great,
If months could be busy and conversations fancy,
I'd take a taxi and say that it's 2008."

--the great Poet, Tony Ukena (aka, "me"--ok, stop sound so egotistical--)

One stop was in Napa, running 22.6 miles and then feeling nauseous,
Another in Minneapolis; The other day the perspective of Nick,
and today I am here sitting and think of 2008.

I've enjoyed this year. It's been so busy at times I've had panic attacks. Now everything's a bit more at peace. No sense of urgency. Just a patient peace.

Question: What would you say was the musical highlight of 2008?

Answer: Am I talking to myself? Well, ok, let's humor this question. I cannot say that there was a song that won me over. If I had to pick one song from this year, I'd take "Paper Planes" featuring Bun B.

Question: What was the event of the year?

Answer: I guess that depends on your political party. For me, I guess my first eBay sale, some Soft Cell cd that I was nearly going to throw away. I ended up getting $9.99 for it.

Question: Any new music this year?

Answer: Sadly not. Lots of motiffs that were inspired and then disappeared in the attic of my mind.

Question: Any new friends or new people?

Answer: Yes to that. I'll have to put Yussefa as my favorite new friend. That could change though. There's still 14 more days.

Question: Where did you travel in 2008?

Answer: It was purely domestic traveling in 2008. I drove to Des Moines, Iowa from San Francisco in 48 hours. Day One, left Wednesday morning and drove to Elko, Nevada. Day Two, left Elko, Nevada and drove to North Platte, Nebraska. And then, the next morning, drove to Des Moines International Airport and took the plane, a $110 one ticket back home to San Francisco.

I went to Minneapolis. I loved the architecture. Went to Apple Valley, Minnesota. Didn't see an apple. Spent some more time in West Des Moines. But the best time I had was definitely the weekend in New York.

Let's face it. New York City is the best place in the world. If I could die in one city, I'd pick New York.
